Nicholas Searcy was a devoted scholar in mathematics, science, literature and the fine arts. The Nicholas Searcy Prize in Australian Literature is provided annually from the annual income on funds, after capitalisation in accordance with Senate Policy, donated by his mother, Jennifer Searcy in his memory. The prize is established to encourage the study of Australian Literature by young people and is awarded in accordance with the following conditions. 1. The title of the prize is the Nicholas Searcy Prize in Australian Literature. 2. The prize is awarded to the student who, in the opinion of the Head of the School of Social and Cultural Studies following consultation with the Chair of the English and Cultural Studies Discipline Group, is the best student aged 25 years or younger at the time the prize is determined, in ENGL2248 Culture and Difference in Australia. 3. In any year in which there are no enrolments in the unit set out in 2, the prize is awarded to the best student in any Arts unit which, in the opinion of the Chair of the English and Cultural Studies Discipline Group, best reflects the donor's intentions. 4. The prize is awarded by the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. |
