Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry Prize in Paediatric Dentistry [F2082]

1. The Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry Prize in Paediatric Dentistry consists of books to the value of $100, presented annually by the Western Australian branch of the society.

2. The prize is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who, among those who have completed the Level 4 units in the course for the degree of the Bachelor of Dental Science, has demonstrated the most ability in the clinical components of the course to date and has achieved at least a credit grade in the clinical paediatric dentistry component of Clinical Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry 415.

3. The books must be concerned with paediatric dentistry and chosen by the prize winner in consultation with the Head of the School of Dentistry.

 

Australian Dental Association (WA Branch) Prize [F2098]

The Australian Dental Association (WA Branch) Prize of $150 is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who gains the highest aggregate mark in the Level 2 units in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

Australian Society of Endodontology (WA Branch) Prize in Endodontics (Level 3) [F2083]

The Australian Society of Endodontology (WA Branch) Prize in Endodontics of $200 is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who gains the highest mark in the endodontics component of IDNT3321 Endodontics Part 1/IDNT3322 Endodontics Part 2 in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

Australian Society of Endodontology (WA Branch) Prize in Endodontics (Level 4) [F2083]

The Australian Society of Endodontology (WA Branch) Prize in Endodontics of $250 is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who gains the highest mark in IDNT4421 Endodontics Part 1/IDNT4422 Clinical Endodontics Part 2 in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

Australian Society of Orthodontists (West Australian Branch) Prize in Orthodontics [F2095]

The Australian Society of Orthodontists Prize in Orthodontics of the annual income from $516, presented by the Australian Society of Orthodontists (West Australian Branch), is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who gains the highest mark in the orthodontics component of Clinical Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry 415 in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

Australian Society of Periodontology Prize [F1740]

The Australian Society of Periodontology Prize of an inscribed medallion is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who gains the highest mark in IDNT4451 Periodontics Part 1/IDNT4452 Periodontics Part 2 in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

Clive Rogers Prize in Special Needs Dentistry * [F15095]

The Clive Rogers Prize in Special Needs Dentistry has been established to encourage students to pursue an interest in Special Needs Dentistry because the dental need of the elderly and people with disabilities is an important and growing area of specialisation in the community.

1. The prize consists of the annual income after capitalisation in accordance with Senate policy, on the sum of $5000 provided by Clive Rogers.

2. The prize is awarded annually by the Board of Examiners in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences to the student who has achieved the highest mark in the Special Needs Dentistry component of IDNT4401 Dental Public Health Part 1 and IDNT4402 Dental Public Health Part 2.

 
 

Convocation, the UWA Graduates Association Prize in Dentistry (Level 3) [F1739]

1. A Convocation, the UWA Graduates Association Prize of a book voucher and certificate is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who, among those who have completed the Level 3 units of the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science, has, in the opinion of the Board of Examiners in Dentistry, made the greatest contribution to the success of the formal and informal activities of the School of Dentistry during enrolment in those units.

2. Nominations, which may be made by students or academic staff in the School of Dentistry, must be submitted to the Head of the School by the last day of instruction in second semester and must address the following criteria:

(a) academic performance;

(b) sporting activities organised by the Dental Alumni Society and/or the University Dental Students' Society;

(c) participation in dental functions; and

(d) participation in the activities of the University Dental Students' Society.

3. The recommendation for award of the prize must reach the Examinations Office by the end of December each year.

 

Convocation, UWA Graduates Association Prize (Level 1) [F1739]

A Convocation, the UWA Graduates Association Prize of a book voucher and certificate is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who has the highest aggregate mark for the Level 1 units in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

David Booth Prize in Pain Control [F3677]

The David Booth Prize in Pain Control, consisting of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on a sum of $5000 donated by David Booth, is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who gains the highest mark in the pain control module of IDNT2261 Fundamentals of Clinical Dentistry II Part 1/IDNT2262 Fundamentals of Clinical Dentistry II Part 2 in the course for the degree of the Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

Dental Board of Western Australia Prize in Dentistry [F1734]

1. The Dental Board of Western Australia Prize in Dentistry of $350 is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who gains the highest aggregate mark in the Level 3 units in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

2. The prize winner will receive an appropriate wall mounted plaque, funded by the Dental Board of Western Australia.

 

D. J. Cock Prize in Periodontics [F2099]

The D. J. Cock Prize in Periodontics consisting of the income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on a sum of $6000 donated by former students and periodontists and supplemented by any further donations, is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who gains the highest mark in IDNT4451 Periodontics Part 1/IDNT4452 Periodontics Part 2 in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

Dr F. Simpson Prize in Dentistry [F2100]

The Dr F. Simpson Prize in Dentistry of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on £100 presented in 1946 by Dr Frederick William Simpson, is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who gains the highest aggregate mark for the Level 1 units in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

Eric Williams Prize in Prosthodontics [F8831]

1. The Eric Williams Prize in Prosthodontics consists of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on a sum of money donated by the WA Branch of the Australian Prosthodontic Society.

2. The prize is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student completing the Level 2 units of the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science who gains the highest mark in and has passed with distinction Removable Prosthodontics 201.

 

Frydrych Prize in General Pathology * [F15848]

The Frydrych Prize in General Pathology, of $250 provided from a sum of money donated by Dr Agnieszka Frydrych, is awarded annually by the appropriate Board of Examiners in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences to the student with the highest mark in IDNT3388 General Pathology.

 

G. D. Henderson Prize in Oral Surgery [F1732]

1. The G. D. Henderson Prize in Oral Surgery consists of the annual income, less 30 per cent which is capitalised each year, from $1200, presented in 1973 by the Dentists' Association of WA Incorporated in recognition of over 50 years of service to the dental profession in Western Australia by Mr Gilbert D. Henderson.

2. The prize is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who gains the highest mark in the oral surgery component of Anaesthesia and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery 411 in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

Gordon Kirkness Memorial Prize in Orthodontics * [F18776]

The Gordon Kirkness Memorial Prize in Orthodontics consists of the annual income after capitalisation in accordance with Senate policy on the sum of $5,000 provided by the Australian Society of Orthodontics (WA Branch) and is awarded annually by the appropriate Board of Examiners in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences to the student with the highest average mark in IDNT3311 Orthodontics Part 1 and IDNT3312 Orthodontics Part 2.

 

Harold Baggett Memorial Prize in Histology * [F2096]

1. The Harold Baggett Memorial Prize in Histology consists of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on the sum of $4000 donated by Mr H. Baggett, a technician and teacher in the then Department of Anatomy and Human Biology from 1957 to 1992.

2. The prize is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who gains the highest marks in the histology components of Level 2 units in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

Ian G. Thorburn Prize [F2103]

The Ian G. Thorburn Prize consisting of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, from $2000 is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who has the highest mark in IDNT3371 General Medicine Part 1/IDNT3372 General Medicine Part 2 in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

J. F. S. McGibbon Award [F2102]

The Australian Society of Orthodontists (WA Branch) having donated the sum of $1845 on behalf of the dental profession to endow an award in memory of the late J. F. S. McGibbon, who was an eminent orthodontist in Perth and part-time teacher of orthodontics for many years, the award, called the J.F.S. McGibbon Award, is administered in accordance with the following regulations.

1. The award consists of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on the fund established by the sum donated. 

2. The award is made by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry, on the recommendation of two examiners who are appointed by the Board on the recommendation of the Australian Society of Orthodontists (WA Branch), to the student enrolled for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science who has submitted the best essay on a topic directly or indirectly related to orthodontics.

3. The essay topic is determined by the examiners no later than 31 March of the year of award, and essays must be submitted to the course co-ordinator for Orthodontics by l October in the year of the award.

4. Essays must be in typescript and must not exceed the length prescribed by the examiners at the time the topic is determined.

 

John McGeachie Prize * [F23628]

The John McGeachie Prize, consists of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on a capital sum of $5000 donated by Professor John McGeachie and is awarded by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners in the School of Anatomy and Human Biology, to the Bachelor of Dental Science student with the highest mark in IDNT2223 Anatomy for Dental Students.

 

Kenneth J. G. Sutherland Prize in Clinical Dentistry [F1500]

The Kenneth J. G. Sutherland Prize in Clinical Dentistry, consisting of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on the sum of $5000 donated by Emeritus Professor K. J. G. Sutherland, is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who, among those who have performed consistently well in clinical practice in the Level 4 units of the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science, gains the highest average mark over all Level 4 units in the course.

 

Kenneth J. G. Sutherland Prize in Oral Biology [F1742]

1. The Kenneth J. G. Sutherland Prize in Oral Biology consists of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on the sum of $5000 presented to the University by Emeritus Professor K. J. G. Sutherland.

2. The prize is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student in the course for the degree of the Bachelor of Dental Science who has the highest mark in IDNT1124 Foundations of Oral Biology.

 

Kenneth J. G. Sutherland Prize in Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine [F1735]

1. The Kenneth J. G. Sutherland Prize in Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine consists of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on the sum of $5000 donated by Emeritus Professor K. J. G. Sutherland.

2.(1) The prize is awarded to the student who, among those who have completed the Level 4 units in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science, is, in the opinion of the Board of Examiners in Dentistry, the most outstanding in oral surgery and oral medicine.

(2) The Board of Examiners' decision is based on the student's results in oral surgery and oral medicine with greater weight (66 per cent) being given to oral medicine.

 

Kenneth J. G. Sutherland Prize in Preventive Dentistry [F2109]

1. The Kenneth J. G. Sutherland Prize in Preventive Dentistry consists of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on a sum of $5000 donated by Emeritus Professor K. J. G. Sutherland.

2. The prize is awarded to the student who, in the opinion of the Board of Examiners in Dentistry, is the most outstanding among those who have completed IDNT2208 Preventive Dentistry in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

Leonard Nathan Prize in Oral Pathology [F2101]

1. The Leonard Nathan Prize in Oral Pathology consists of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on the sum of £298 presented in 1961 by numerous Australians in recognition of the hospitality extended to them by Dr Leonard Nathan of Boston, Massachusetts.

2. At the discretion of the Head of the School of Dentistry, the prize consists of a book or books dealing with oral pathology as recommended by the Head of the School, or is awarded as a cash prize.

3. The prize is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who, among those who pass with distinction in the oral pathology component of IDNT4461 Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine Part 1/IDNT4462 Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine Part 2 in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science, gains the highest mark for that component.

 

Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons Prize * [F7729]

1. The Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons Prize of $500 is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student completing the Bachelor of Dental Science course who has achieved the highest weighted average over all units in the course.

2. The prize is first offered in 2004 and will be offered each year up to and including 2008.

 

 

Sally Joyston-Bechal Study Group Prize [F7628]

1. The Sally Joyston-Bechal Study Group Prize of $500 is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student completing Level 2 units in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science who has attained a high standard of academic achievement and made a substantial contribution to the success of the formal and informal activities of the School of Dentistry during enrolment in the units.

2. Nominations, which may be made by students or academic staff in the School of Dentistry, must be submitted to the Head of the School by the last day of instruction in second semester and must address the following criteria:

(a) academic performance;

(b) sporting activities organised by the Dental Alumni Society and/or the University Dental Students' Society;

(c) participation in dental functions; and

(d) participation in the University Dental Students' Society.

 

Tom E. Scott Memorial Prize in Prosthodontics [F1741]

1. The Tom E. Scott Memorial Prize in Prosthodontics consists of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on the sum of £590 presented in his memory by former and present students and staff of the School of Dentistry and others associated with the late Tom E. Scott, formerly instructor/technician in Dental Science.

2. The prize is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who has the highest mark in the practice of fixed and removable prosthodontics in the prosthodontics component of IDNT4441 Restorative Dentistry Part 1/IDNT4442 Restorative Dentistry Part 2 in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

Western Australian College of Dental Science Prize in Restorative Dentistry [F2105]

1. The Western Australian College of Dental Science Prize in Restorative Dentistry consists of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on a sum of $5000 donated by the Western Australian College of Dental Science.

2. The prize is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who has the highest mark in IDNT4441 Restorative Dentistry Part 1/IDNT4442 Restorative Dentistry Part 2 in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.

 

Wynn Needham Memorial Prize [F2097]

The Wynn Needham Memorial Prize of the annual income after capitalisation, in accordance with Senate policy, on the sum of $4000, consisting of a capital sum received by the University from the estate of the late Mr Wynn Needham supplemented by donations from members of the dental profession and professional organisations, is awarded by the Board of Examiners in Dentistry to the student who gains the highest aggregate mark for the Level 5 units in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.
