UWA Excellence Awards [F1931]

The University of Western Australia celebrates excellence and seeks to recognise outstanding students in schools throughout the State. To this end, the UWA Excellence Awards are established and are awarded in accordance with the following regulations.

1.(1) The University will offer to one student from each senior secondary school in the State who is eligible in terms of Regulation 3 a guaranteed place in their first preference course except if that preference is for Medicine, Dentistry or Music to which particular selection processes apply.

(2) Applicants who—

(a) are eligible in terms of Regulation 3; and

(b) have nominated Medicine, Dentistry or Music as a first preference; and

(c) are offered and accept a place in their first preference course, will receive the benefits of the award set out in Regulation 2.

(3) Applicants who—

(a) are eligible in terms of Regulation 3; and

(b) have nominated Medicine, Dentistry or Music as a first preference; and

(c) are not offered a place in their first preference course, will be guaranteed a place in the next UWA course they have listed as a preference that is not Medicine, Dentistry or Music.

2. All students who are eligible in terms of Regulation 3 who accept the offer of a place in a UWA course will receive a $500 book voucher and a certificate of merit.

3.(1) To be eligible for an award, a student must—

(a) have been nominated by their school as the school's Year 12 student most likely to succeed at university; and

(b) have applied through TISC for a place at UWA, nominating the desired UWA course as their first preference; and

(c) meet the admission requirements for entry to UWA including Secondary Graduation, competence in English and course prerequisites, where applicable, but not necessarily have attained the advertised cut-off score for their chosen course; and

(d) achieve a Tertiary Entrance Rank of at least 80.00; and

(e) be a permanent resident or citizen of Australia.

(2) To be guaranteed a place in a UWA course, an applicant who is eligible in terms of sub-regulation (1) who has nominated Medicine, Dentistry or Music as a first preference must have nominated a UWA course other than Medicine, Dentistry or Music as a second, third or fourth preference.

4. Applications must be made on the application form sent to each school by the Prospective Students Office and be returned to that office by the advertised closing date.

5. The University will notify applicants of the outcome of their application in early January.
