UWA Graduates Association Sports Bursary [F174]

Convocation, the UWA Graduates Association, in co-operation with the Guild of Undergraduates, having established a capital fund to provide an award to be known as the UWA Graduates Association Sports Bursary, the bursary is established and is administered in accordance with the following regulations.

1. The purpose of the bursary is to provide financial assistance to students who have demonstrated both sporting excellence or potential sporting excellence, and a sustained level of proficient academic performance, to enable them to further their sporting careers or achievements.

2. Bursaries may be used to acquire equipment, to defray travel expenses incurred in attending a sporting event, or to meet other appropriate costs associated with the recipient's sporting career.

3. Applications from full-time or part-time undergraduate students who have completed units to the value of at least 48 points will be invited by the Council of Convocation, the UWA Graduates Association and must be submitted to the Office of the UWA Graduates Association no later than the date and time promulgated by the Council.

4. Applications must be submitted on the approved form, which can be obtained from departmental offices, the UWA Sport and Recreation Association, the Guild of Undergraduates enquiry office, and the office of Convocation, the UWA Graduates Association, and must include:

(a) an academic record;

(b) a letter of support from a member of academic staff;

(c) evidence of sporting excellence, which may include citations, trophies, or recommendations from recognised coaches, team managers or committees of sporting clubs;

(d) a curriculum vitae providing information on personal details and academic qualifications;

(e) a statement of the proposed use of the bursary; and

(f) any other information which the Council may request.

5. Bursaries are awarded by the Council of Convocation, the UWA Graduates Association on the recommendation of a selection committee comprising:

(a) the Warden of Convocation, the UWA Graduates Association or nominee;

(b) two members of the Council of Convocation, the UWA Graduates Association nominated by the Warden;         

(c) two past winners of a Blue or Half Blue nominated by the Council of Convocation, the UWA Graduates Association;

(d) the President of the Guild Sports Council or nominee;

(e) the Executive Director, UWA Sport and Recreation Association or nominee; and

(f) a member of academic staff nominated by the Head of the School of Human Movement and Exercise Science.

6. The amount of a bursary is determined by the Council of Convocation, the UWA Graduates Association.

7. Confirmation of the award of a bursary by the Council is final.

8. The Council may in any year elect not to award a bursary or to award more than one bursary.

9. The recipient of a bursary is required to provide a short written report on how the bursary was used and on his or her recent sporting activities and achievements for publication at the discretion of the Council of Convocation, the UWA Graduates Association.

10. The bursary must be taken up within 12 months of the date of offer.
