The UWA Centenary Trust for Women, having donated a sum of money to the University of Western Australia to establish a fund to provide a scholarship to assist a woman student for whom educational opportunities are limited because of distance, economic disadvantage, cultural differences, disability or responsibility for the care of children, the ill or the elderly, a scholarship is established and is administered in accordance with the following conditions.
1. The scholarship is called the UWA Centenary Trust for Women Scholarship. 2. The purpose of the scholarship is to facilitate and encourage a woman student for whom educational opportunities are limited to pursue or continue studies at the University. 3. The scholarship is tenable for the equivalent of one year of full-time study. 4. The value of the scholarship is determined at the discretion of the Centenary Trust for Women Committee. 5. To be eligible to apply for a scholarship an applicant must be— (a) a citizen or permanent resident of Australia; and (b) enrolled at the University. 6.The scholarship is awarded to the student who has demonstrated— (a) academic merit; (b) financial need; and (c) that their educational opportunities are limited due to distance, economic disadvantage, cultural differences, disability or responsibility for the care of children, the ill or elderly. 7. The scholarship is awarded by the Selection Committee which comprises: (a) the Dean of Undergraduate Studies; (b) the Dean of Postgraduate Studies; and (c) a representative of the UWA Centenary Trust for Women. 8. The scholarship is administered by the UWA Centenary Trust for Women. 9. The scholarship will be advertised in August/September each year and applications must be received in November. 10. Unexpended income in any year is carried forward and becomes part of the income available for expenditure in the following year. 11. The scholarship may be held in conjunction with another award. 12. Any publication or thesis resulting from research financed wholly or partly by the scholarship must acknowledge the assistance of the UWA Centenary Trust for Women. |
