PreambleFor some years the Scholarships Committee has, on behalf of various internal and external agencies, administered numbers of ad hoc postgraduate scholarships. There are now increasing numbers of ad hoc scholarships available for students in their honours years, but it is appropriate that these be administered directly by the schools or faculties concerned, rather than the Scholarships Committee. The Scholarships Committee has clearly indicated that there must be a distinction between scholarships awarded for educational purposes and the employment of students on commercial research projects, and the regulations covering these ad hoc honours scholarships have been drawn up on that basis. In particular, all scholarships must be awarded after open advertisement and according to academic merit, with due adherence to the equity principles espoused by the University. |
