Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Undergraduate Commencement Scholarships * [F47]

An asterisk (*) indicates that this scholarship is governed by conditions. This scholarship is governed by the General Conditions for Scholarships for Coursework Students except as set out in the conditions that follow.

The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, having agreed to provide the sum of $10,000 annually, for the purpose of providing scholarships to eligible commencing students interested in studying in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Undergraduate Commencement Scholarships are established and are awarded in accordance with the following conditions.

1. The scholarships are restricted to students who—

(a) are citizens or permanent residents of Australia;

(b) have completed secondary schooling within the last two years; and

(c) will be commencing a bachelor's degree course in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (either as a single degree course or as part of a combined course).

2. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of—

(a) demonstrated academic merit as evidenced by the Tertiary Entrance Rank; and

(b) demonstrated leadership, motivation and involvement in community or co-curricular activities.

3. The number of scholarships awarded each year is determined by the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, taking into consideration the funds available.

4. Each scholarship is paid in two parts per year, continuation from semester to semester being subject to the recipient making satisfactory progress in the previous semester.

5. Awards are conditional upon continued enrolment in an undergraduate degree course in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

6.(1) Written applications for the scholarships shall be called for annually and shall be submitted to the Faculty Administrative Officer (Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences) by 30 November in each year.

(2) Applicants must have listed The University of Western Australia as one of their preferred institutions in their application for university admission.

(3) Students who commence their studies mid-year are eligible to apply for the scholarships in the first semester of the year following that in which they commence their studies.

7. The scholarships are awarded by a committee comprising—

(a) the Dean and the Student Adviser of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences;

(b) the University's Prospective Students Officer; and

(c) two academic members of the Faculty Board elected annually by the Faculty Board.

8. A student may not hold more than one of these scholarships concurrently.

9. The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences reserves the right not to provide funds in any year for the award of one or more scholarships.
