Baker Hughes INTEQ Scholarship in Geology (One Year) * [F18690]

An asterisk (*) indicates that this scholarship is governed by conditions. This scholarship is governed by the General Conditions for Scholarships for Coursework Students except as set out in the conditions that follow.

Baker Hughes INTEQ provides funds for a scholarship at The University of Western Australia for students studying geology who are interested in pursuing a career in the oil and gas servicing industry. The scholarship is administered in accordance with the following conditions.

Title
1.
The scholarship is called the Baker Hughes INTEQ Scholarship in Geology (One Year).

Value
2.
The value of the scholarship is $5000.

Eligibility Requirements
3.
To be eligible to apply for a scholarship an applicant must be—

(a) a citizen or permanent resident of Australia; and

(b) in a position to complete by the end of the year in which the scholarship is taken up—

(i) one of the following programmes in the Bachelor of Science (70100)—

  • Geology and Resource Economics;

  • Mineral Geoscience;

  • Petroleum Geoscience;

or

(ii) the Bachelor of Science with Honours (5011H) in Geology;

or

(iii) a combined course in any of the areas of Geology, Geology and Resource Economics, Mineral Geoscience or Petroleum Geoscience.

Body Responsible for Selection

The selection committee for the scholarship comprises—

(a) the Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Science or nominee; and

(b) the Head of School of Earth and Environment, or nominee; and

(c) a representative from Baker Hughes INTEQ.

Selection Criteria
5.
The scholarship is awarded by the Board of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, on the recommendation of the selection committee, to the applicant who, in its opinion, best demonstrates in their application and supporting documentation—

(a) academic achievement as evidenced by their academic record;

(b) excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

(c) dedication to working safely;

(d) integrity;

(e) ability to work as part of a team; and

(f) a commitment to learning and performance.

Selection Process
6.(1)
Selection of the recipient is made by the selection committee having regard to the applicant's academic record, application letter covering the selection criteria and any work experience referee reports if available.

(2) The selection committee interviews short-listed applicants.

Application Procedure
7.(1)
The scholarship is advertised annually by the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences in time for an application to be submitted for the relevant year.

(2) Applications addressing the selection criteria must be submitted to the Senior Faculty Administrative Officer of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences and should be accompanied by—

(a) a brief curriculum vitae including present and previous work experience where applicable; and

(b) where applicable, the names and contact details of two work experience referees.

Awarding Body
8.
The scholarship is awarded by the Board of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences on the recommendation of the selection committee.

Method of Payment
9.
The scholarship is paid in two instalments each year, one on or after the census date in each of first and second semesters.

Duration
10.
The scholarship is tenable for two semesters, which are normally consecutive.

Concurrent Scholarships
11.
The scholarship may be held concurrently with another external or University award provided that the conditions of the other award so permit.

Administration
12.
The scholarship is administered by the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences.

Publications
13.
Any thesis, dissertation or other publication arising from research undertaken by the recipient while in receipt of the Baker Hughes INTEQ Scholarship in Geology (One Year) must acknowledge the assistance of the scholarship and carry the University by-line.
