ConocoPhillipsSPIRIT Scholarships * [F11818]

An asterisk (*) indicates that this scholarship is governed by conditions. This scholarship is governed by the General Conditions for Scholarships for Coursework Students except as set out in the conditions that follow.

The statutory entity, the Faculty of Business, is known as the UWA Business School.

ConocoPhillips has established the ConocoPhillipsSPIRIT Scholarships at The University of Western Australia to provide professional development opportunities for students pursuing careers in the energy business. The scholarships are administered in accordance with the following conditions.

Title
1.
The scholarship is called the ConocoPhillipsSPIRIT Scholarship.

Availability
2.
Up to two scholarships are available in any one year.

Value
3.
The scholarship includes:

(a) an annual stipend of $6500;

(b) $1500 per annum for costs relating to vacation work experience, a field trip, seminar, or other development opportunity proposed by the scholarship recipient and approved by ConocoPhillips.

Eligibility
4.
To be eligible to apply for a scholarship an applicant must—

(a) be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia;

(b) be enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Commerce course or in the combined course leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Engineering;

(c) in the case of a student enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering or in the combined course leading to the Bachelor of Commerce and the Bachelor of Engineering, be enrolled in one of the following programmes: Chemical and Process Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or Process Engineering; and

(d) have completed a minimum of 48 points towards—

(i) the Bachelor of Commerce; or

(ii) the Bachelor of Engineering; or

(iii) the combined course for the degrees of Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Engineering.

Selection Committee
5.
The scholarship is awarded by the Board of the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics and/or the Board of the UWA Business School on the recommendation of a selection committee comprising:

(a) the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics, or nominee; and

(b) the Dean of the UWA Business School, or nominee; and

(c) a representative from ConocoPhillips.

Selection Criteria
6.
The scholarship is awarded by the selection committee to the applicant who, in its opinion, best demonstrates through their completed application and supporting documentation—

(a) academic achievement as evidenced by their academic record; and

(b) motivation, compatibility with the organisation and commitment to their chosen profession as assessed by the selection committee.

Selection Process
7.(1)
Selection of the recipient is made by the selection committee having regard to the applicant's academic record, completed application forms and referee reports, where applicable.

(2) The selection committee may interview short-listed applicants.

Duration
8.
Subject to the recipient meeting the criteria for continuation in Clause 9, the scholarship is available for the remaining portion of the course for which it is awarded, including an end-on honours course, if applicable.

Method of Payment
9.
The scholarship is paid in two instalments, one on or after the census date in each of first and second semesters.

Criteria for Continuation
10.
Continuation of the scholarship from year to year is subject to the recipient—

(a) passing all units and achieving an average mark of 65 per cent; and

(b) maintaining continuous enrolment as a full-time student in the course for which the scholarship is awarded.

Concurrent Awards
11.
The scholarship must not be held concurrently with any other oil industry scholarship.

Student Opportunity
12.
Recipients of the scholarship are provided with the opportunity to undertake up to 12 weeks paid vacation employment.1

Administration
13.
The scholarship is administered by the respective faculties and is advertised at a time agreed by both faculties in second semester of the relevant year for award in the following year.

Publications
14.
Any thesis, dissertation or other publication arising from research financed wholly or partly by the ConocoPhillipsSPIRIT Scholarship must acknowledge the assistance of the scholarship and must carry the University by-line.
