Edith Easthope Scholarship * [F22520]

Ms Edith Easthope having made a bequest under the terms of her will to establish a scholarship to assist students enrolled in any programme offered in the Bachelor of Science (70100) in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, a fund is established for the purpose. The scholarship is administered in accordance with the following conditions.

Title
1.
The scholarship is called the Edith Easthope Scholarship.

Availability 
2.
Up to two scholarships are available in any one year.

Purpose 
3.
The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to an eligible student or students enrolled in any programme in the Bachelor of Science (70100) in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences.

Value
4.
The scholarship is provided from the annual income on the fund after capitalisation in accordance with Senate policy.

Eligibility Requirements
5.
To be eligible for consideration a student must—

(a) be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia;

(b) be enrolled in any programme in either a Bachelor of Science (70100) course or  a combined course including a Bachelor of Science (70100) component;

(c) have completed—

(i) units to the value of 96 points and the requirements of all Level 2 units taken towards the degree of Bachelor of Science (70100);

or

(ii) units to the value of a minimum of 144 points and the requirements of all Level 3 units taken towards the degree of Bachelor of Science (70100);

and

(d) be enrolled on a full-time basis, unless, in the opinion of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, there are exceptional circumstances which prevent the student from studying full-time.

Selection Criteria
6.
The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic achievement—

(i) to the student with the highest average mark in Level 2 units to the value of at least 48 points completed in one calendar year in any programme taken towards the degree of Bachelor of Science (70100); and/or

(ii) to the student with the highest average mark in Level 3 units to the value of at least 48 points completed in one calendar year in any programme taken towards the degree of Bachelor of Science (70100).

Selection Process 
7.
Selection of the recipient(s) is made by the Faculty having regard to the applicants’ academic records.

Awarding Body
8.
The scholarship is awarded by the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences.

Method of Payment
9. (1)
 The scholarship is paid in two equal instalments.

(2) One instalment is normally paid on or following the census date in each of the relevant semesters.

(3) Payment of the second instalment is subject to the recipient making satisfactory progress in accordance with the rules for the course in relation to which the scholarship is awarded.

Duration of Award
10.
The scholarship is tenable for two semesters which are normally consecutive.

Concurrent Awards
11.
The scholarship may be held concurrently with any other external or University award providing that the conditions of the concurrent award so permit.

Administering Body
12.
The scholarship is administered by the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences.

Publications 
13.
Any thesis, dissertation or other publication resulting from research undertaken by the recipient while in receipt of the Edith Easthope Scholarship must acknowledge the support of the scholarship and carry the University by-line.
