Harold McComb Elective Scholarship * [F7722]An asterisk (*) indicates that this scholarship is governed by conditions. This scholarship is governed by the General Conditions for Scholarships for Coursework Students except as set out in the conditions that follow. Interplast Australia, a voluntary medical organisation, has made available a scholarship in recognition of the contribution made to it over many years by Mr Harold McComb. The Harold McComb Elective Scholarship is established and is administered in accordance with the following conditions. 1. The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student in the course for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery during an elective placement in a centre assisting those with special needs either in a developing country or in Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander health in Australia. 2. One scholarship to the value of $1000 is available each year. 3. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must— (a) be enrolled in the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery course; (b) have applied to undertake an elective placement in a centre assisting those with special needs either in a developing country or in Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander health in Australia; and (c) have made satisfactory progress in the course. 4. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of the applicant's one page summary, the reference referred to in 6 and on academic merit. 5. The scholarship is awarded by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences on the recommendation of the Associate Dean (Student Affairs) and the Manager (Student Affairs). 6. Applications must be submitted to the Associate Dean (Student Affairs) by the advertised date and must include: (a) a one page summary of the applicant's placement destination, their interest in the placement, the benefits that are expected to accrue from the placement to themselves, the community and the Faculty and the likely benefit of the placement to the applicant's future skills as a clinician; (b) a reference from an academic staff member in the Faculty. 7. The recipient must not accept another award from the Faculty during the term of the scholarship. |
