J P Morgan Accounting and Finance Honours Scholarship * [F7140]An asterisk (*) indicates that this scholarship is governed by conditions. This scholarship is governed by the General Conditions for Scholarships for Coursework Students except as set out in the conditions that follow. The statutory entity, the Faculty of Business, is known as the UWA Business School. J P Morgan having agreed to fund an annual scholarship for students enrolled full-time in the Accounting and Finance honours programme in the UWA Business School at The University of Western Australia (the University), the scholarship is established and administered in accordance with the following conditions. Title 1. The scholarship is called the J P Morgan Accounting and Finance Honours Scholarship. Purpose 2. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage students to pursue honours in Accounting and/or Finance at the University. Value 3. The value of the scholarship is $6000. Eligibility Requirements 4. To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, applicants must— (a) be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia; (b) have completed an undergraduate major in Accounting and/or Finance, or equivalent; and (c) be enrolled or eligible to enrol on a full-time basis in an honours programme in Accounting and/or Finance in the UWA Business School. Body Responsible for Selection 5. The selection committee for the scholarship comprises: (a) a representative of J P Morgan; (b) the Dean of the UWA Business School, or nominee, as chair; (c) the Director of Undergraduate Programs, or nominee; (d) the Chair of the Accounting and Finance discipline group, or nominee; and (e) the honours co-ordinator in Accounting and Finance. Selection Criteria 6.(1) The scholarship is awarded by the selection committee to the applicant who, in its opinion, best demonstrates academic achievement in the Level 2 and 3 units in the course for the Bachelor of Economics or Bachelor of Commerce degree, as evidenced by their academic record. (2) If, in the opinion of the selection committee, the difference in academic achievement between applicants is insignificant, it may take other factors into account, such as the applicant's motivation and perceived potential for success in the honours year as evidenced by the written statement and at an interview. Selection Process 7.(1) Selection of the recipient is made by the selection committee having regard to the applicants' academic records and written applications. (2) Short-listed applications may be interviewed. Awarding Body 8. The scholarship is awarded by the UWA Business School, on the recommendation of the selection committee. Method of Payment 9.(1) The scholarship is paid in two equal instalments. (2) One instalment is paid on or following the census date in each of the relevant semesters. (3) Payment of the second instalment is subject to the recipient making satisfactory progress in accordance with the rules for the course in relation to which the scholarship is awarded. Duration of Award 10. The scholarship is tenable for two semesters which are normally consecutive. Application Procedure 11. (1) Written applications for the scholarship are called for annually and must be submitted to the Faculty Administrative Officer of the UWA Business School by the advertised closing date. (2) Applications must be accompanied by— (a) a resume; (b) a statement regarding the applicant's proposed course of study in the honours year, their motivation in pursuing the course of study, and career plans; and (c) for applicants who have undertaken study at a tertiary institution other than the University, a complete academic transcript from that institution. Concurrent Awards 12. The scholarship may be held concurrently with another external or University award provided that the conditions of the concurrent award so permit. Other Conditions 13. J P Morgan may review the scholarship annually. Administering Body 14. The scholarship is administered by the UWA Business School. Publications 15. Any thesis, dissertation or other publication resulting from research undertaken by the recipient while in receipt of the J P Morgan Accounting and Finance Honours Scholarship must acknowledge the support of the scholarship and carry the University by-line.
