Mitsubishi Corporation International Scholarship * [F25916]An asterisk (*) indicates that this scholarship is governed by conditions. This scholarship is governed by the General Conditions for Scholarships for Coursework Students except as set out in the conditions that follow. Mitsubishi Corporation provides funds for a scholarship to assist an Indigenous student who is undertaking an undergraduate degree course at The University of Western Australia (the University). Funding for the scholarship is provided for two semesters with a possibility of extension for another two semesters depending on availability of funds. The scholarship is administered in accordance with the following conditions. Title 1. The scholarship is called the Mitsubishi Corporation International Scholarship. Purpose 2. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist and encourage an Indigenous student to commence and/or continue their undergraduate studies at the University. Value 3.(1) The annual value of the scholarship is $10,000. (2) The scholarship comprises— (a) the up-front student contribution fees per annum applicable to the course for which the scholarship is awarded; and (b) the balance of funds remaining after (a) is paid, if any, to be used as a living allowance or for related costs, at the recipient’s discretion. Eligibility Requirements 4. To be eligible to apply for a scholarship a student must be— (a) a citizen or permanent resident of Australia; (b) an Indigenous person; and (c) enrolled, or intending to enrol, full-time at the University in an undergraduate degree course. Body Responsible for Selection 5. The selection committee is the Scholarships Committee which includes a representative of the School of Indigenous Studies. Selection Criteria 6. The scholarship is awarded to the applicant who, in the opinion of the selection committee, demonstrates— (a) academic achievement; and (b) past educational disadvantage as defined in clause 10 of the guidelines for the UWA SWANS Scholarship, see http://www.scholarships.uwa.edu.au/home/undergrad/cs_swans_schols/eligibility/swans?f=243068. Selection Process 7. Selection of the recipient is made by the selection committee, having regard to the applicants’ academic records, completed applications and supporting documentation. Awarding Body 8. The scholarship is awarded by the Scholarships Committee. Application Procedure 9. Applications are called for on the University Scholarships website (http://www.scholarships.uwa.edu.au/home/undergrad) and must be submitted with supporting documentation by the advertised closing date. Method of Payment 10. The scholarship is paid in instalments in the following manner— (1) The up-front student contribution fees are paid on or before the census date in each semester directly to the University on the recipient’s behalf. (2) The balance remaining after provision for the student contribution fees, if any, is paid on or after the census date in each semester. (3) The second payment of both (1) and (2) is subject to the recipient meeting the criteria set out in 11. (4) Any subsequent payments are subject to the availability of funding and to the student meeting the criteria set out in 11. Criteria for Continuation 11. (1) Continuation of the scholarship from semester to semester is subject to the recipient— (a) making satisfactory progress in accordance with the rules of the course for which the scholarship is awarded; and (b) maintaining continuous enrolment at the University as a full-time student in the course for which the scholarship is awarded unless otherwise approved. (2) Continuation of the scholarship for a further two semesters is subject to the availability of funding and the student meeting the criteria set out in (1). Duration of Award 12. The scholarship is tenable for two semesters which are normally consecutive. Concurrent Award 13. The scholarship may not be held in conjunction with any other undergraduate scholarship or award except a Commonwealth Scholarship and other University scholarship and award. Administering Body 14. The scholarship is administered by the Scholarships Committee. Publications 15. Any thesis, dissertation or other publication resulting from research undertaken by the recipient while in receipt of the Mitsubishi Corporation International Scholarship must acknowledge the support of the scholarship and carry the University by-line.
