This scholarship is governed by the General Conditions for Scholarships for Coursework Students except as set out in the conditions that follow. MWH donates $7500 annually to provide a scholarship to assist and encourage meritorious students to undertake research and studies in the field of hydrogeology, the branch of geology that deals with the study of underground water and the geological aspects of surface water. Title 1. The scholarship is called the MWH Scholarship in Hydrogeology. Purpose 2. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and assist a meritorious student to pursue research and studies in the field of hydrogeology. Value 3. The annual value of the scholarship is $7500. Eligibility Requirements 4. (1) To be eligible to apply for a scholarship an applicant must be eligible to enrol— (a) in an honours course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours; or (b) in a single or combined course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science including units comprising the Level 4 Research Project; or (c) in a single or combined course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Engineering including units comprising the Level 4 Project. (2) To be eligible to take up the scholarship an applicant must enrol in the course for which the scholarship is awarded. Body Responsible for Selection 5. The selection committee for the scholarship comprises— (a) the Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, or nominee (as Chair); (b) the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics, or nominee; (c) the Head of the School of Earth and Environment, or nominee. Selection Criteria 6. The scholarship is awarded to the applicant who, in the opinion of the selection committee, best demonstrates through their application and supporting documentation— (a) academic achievement as evidenced by their academic record; and (b) a commitment to developing skills in the field of hydrogeology research. Selection Process 7. (1) Selection of the recipient is made by the selection committee having regard to the applicants’ academic records, completed application forms and supporting documentation. (2) The selection committee may interview short-listed applicants. Awarding Body 8. The scholarship is awarded by the Scholarships Committee on the recommendation of the selection committee. Method of Payment 9. (1) The scholarship is paid in two equal instalments. (2) One instalment is normally paid on or following the census date in each of the relevant semesters. (3) Payment of the second instalment is subject to the recipient making satisfactory progress in accordance with the rules of the course in relation to which the scholarship is awarded. Criteria for Continuation 10. Continuation of the scholarship is subject to the recipient making satisfactory progress in accordance with the rules for the course and remaining enrolled in the course for which the scholarship is awarded. Duration of Award 11. The scholarship is tenable for two semesters which are normally consecutive. Concurrent Awards 12. The scholarship may be held concurrently with another external or University award provided that the conditions of the concurrent award so permit. Application Procedure 13. (1) Written applications addressing the selection criteria are called for annually and must be submitted to the Scholarships Office by the advertised closing date. (2) Applicants who have undertaken study at a tertiary institution other than the University of Western Australia, must submit a complete academic transcript from that institution. Student Opportunity 14. Recipients of the scholarship are offered the opportunity to participate in paid vacation employment with MWH. Administering Body 15. The scholarship is administered by the Graduate Research and Scholarships Office. Publications 16. Any thesis, dissertation or other publication resulting from research undertaken by the recipient while in receipt of the MWH Scholarship in Hydrogeology must acknowledge the support of the scholarship and carry the University by-line.
