Jean Rogerson Undergraduate Studentships in the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics * [F7016]

An asterisk (*) indicates that this scholarship is governed by conditions. This scholarship is governed by the General Conditions for Scholarships for Coursework Students except as set out in the conditions that follow.

Miss Jean Ethel Rogerson MBE, BSc, ARACI, Warden of Convocation for two periods totalling eight years and a member of the University Senate for 30 years, died on 25 December 1993 and by her will left 30 per cent of the residue of her estate to the University as a capital fund with the income of it to be applied:

(a) as to one-third to be added in each year to the capital fund; and

(b) as to the remaining two-thirds to provide postgraduate fellowships and undergraduate studentships to be awarded on the basis of ability and not to be means tested.

In compliance with the regulations governing the Jean Rogerson Bequest Fund one-third of the available income of the bequest fund is available annually for Jean Rogerson Undergraduate Studentships and one-seventh of that one-third is available for studentships in the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics, to be administered in accordance with the following conditions.

1. A studentship may be held concurrently with another external or University award provided that the conditions of the concurrent award so permit.

2. Studentships are each of $1000 and are awarded annually.

3.(1) The studentships are awarded by the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics, on the basis of academic merit, to students enrolled in units comprising the first 48 points of the Bachelor of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, Bachelor of Computer Science or Bachelor of Engineering whether taken as a single degree or in conjunction with another degree.

(2) The Faculty Board does not apply any means test in the award of a studentship.

4. The studentships are tenable for two semesters and are paid throughout the enrolment at intervals to be determined by the Faculty, continuation from semester to semester being subject to the awardee making satisfactory progress in the previous semester.

5. The number of studentships awarded each year is determined by the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics, taking into consideration the funds available.
