Jean Rogerson Honours Studentships in the UWA Business School * [F7909]

An asterisk (*) indicates that this scholarship is governed by conditions. This scholarship is governed by the General Conditions for Scholarships for Coursework Students except as set out in the conditions that follow.

The statutory entity, the Faculty of Business, is known as the UWA Business School.

Miss Jean Ethel Rogerson MBE, BSc, ARACI, Warden of Convocation for two periods totalling eight years and a member of the University Senate for 30 years, died on 25 December 1993 and by her will left 30 per cent of the residue of her estate to the University as a capital fund with the income of it to be applied:

(a) as to one-third to be added in each year to the capital fund; and

(b) as to the remaining two-thirds to provide postgraduate fellowships and undergraduate studentships to be awarded on the basis of ability and not to be means tested.

In compliance with the regulations governing the Jean Rogerson Bequest Fund one-third of the available income of the bequest fund is available annually for Jean Rogerson Undergraduate Studentships and one-seventh of that one-third is available for a studentship in the UWA Business School, to be administered in accordance with the following conditions.

1. The studentship is awarded annually and comprises the UWA Business School's portion of the annual income of the Jean Rogerson Bequest Fund.

2. The studentship may be held concurrently with another external or University award provided that the conditions of the concurrent award so permit.

3.(1) The studentship is awarded by a Jean Rogerson Honours Studentship Committee comprising:

(a) the Dean and Associate Dean of the UWA Business School; and

(b) three members of the Faculty Board nominated by the Faculty Board.

(2) The committee does not apply any means test in the award of the studentship.

4. The studentship is awarded to a student enrolled full time in an honours course and is paid throughout the enrolment at intervals to be determined by the UWA Business School, continuation from semester to semester being subject to the awardee making satisfactory progress in the first semester.

5.(1) Written applications for the studentship are called for annually and must be submitted to the Administrative Officer of the UWA Business School no later than the third Friday of first semester.

(2) Applications must include a complete academic transcript of the applicant's tertiary education and a statement regarding the applicant's proposed course of study in the honours year.

6. The award is made principally on the basis of the applicant's academic performance in the Level 2 and 3 units of the Bachelor of Economics or the Bachelor of Commerce course, provided that if the committee judges that the difference between applicants is insignificant, it may take other factors into account such as the perceived potential for success in the honours year and the motivations of the applicant.
