Jean Rogerson Honours Studentships in the Faculty of Law * [F5153]

An asterisk (*) indicates that this scholarship is governed by conditions. This scholarship is governed by the General Conditions for Scholarships for Coursework Students except as set out in the conditions that follow.

Miss Jean Ethel Rogerson MBE, BSc, ARACI, Warden of Convocation for two periods totalling eight years and a member of the University Senate for 30 years, died on 25 December 1993 and by her will left 30 per cent of the residue of her estate to the University as a capital fund with the income of it to be applied:

(a) as to one-third to be added in each year to the capital fund; and

(b) as to the remaining two-thirds to provide postgraduate fellowships and undergraduate studentships to be awarded on the basis of ability and not to be means tested.

In compliance with the regulations governing the Jean Rogerson Bequest Fund one-third of the available income of the bequest fund is available annually for Jean Rogerson Undergraduate Studentships and one-seventh of that one-third is available for studentships in the Faculty of Law, to be administered in accordance with the following conditions.

1. A studentship may be held concurrently with another external or University award provided that the conditions of the concurrent award so permit.

2.(1) The studentships are awarded on the recommendation of the Faculty of Law Honours Committee to the students achieving the best qualifying performance for entry to the honours programme.

(2) To be eligible for consideration for a studentship, a student must have accepted the Faculty's invitation to undertake honours.

(3) The number of studentships to be awarded in any year is determined by the Faculty on the recommendation of the honours committee provided that the value of each award must be no less than $1000.

(4) The committee does not apply any means test in the award of the studentships.

3.(1) Each studentship is paid at intervals to be determined by the Faculty.

(2) The first payment is made upon approval by the honours committee of the student's honours proposal and continuation of the studentship from semester to semester is subject to the honours committee being satisfied that the recipient has made satisfactory progress towards the completion of the honours dissertation in the previous semester.

4. Written applications for a studentship are called for annually and must be submitted to the Administrative Officer of the Faculty no later than the third Friday of first semester.
