Jean Rogerson Honours Studentships in the Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences * [F8000]

An asterisk (*) indicates that this scholarship is governed by conditions. This scholarship is governed by the General Conditions for Scholarships for Coursework Students except as set out in the conditions that follow.

Miss Jean Ethel Rogerson MBE, BSc, ARACI, Warden of Convocation for two periods totalling eight years and a member of the University Senate for 30 years, died on 25 December 1993 and by her will left 30 per cent of the residue of her estate to the University as a capital fund with the income of it to be applied:

(a) as to one-third to be added in each year to the capital fund; and

(b) as to the remaining two-thirds to provide postgraduate fellowships and undergraduate studentships to be awarded on the basis of ability and not to be means tested.

In compliance with the regulations governing the Jean Rogerson Bequest Fund one-third of the available income of the bequest fund is available annually for Jean Rogerson Undergraduate Studentships and one-seventh of that one-third is available for studentships in the Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences, to be administered in accordance with the following conditions.

1. A studentship may be held concurrently with another external or University award provided that the conditions of the concurrent award so permit.

2. Four studentships are awarded annually and the value of each is no less than $1000.

3. The object of the studentships is to encourage Science students to undertake an honours programme.

4.(1) The studentships are awarded by the Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences Board of Examiners to:

(a) the best student completing a Science degree with a biomedical science major;

(b) the best student completing a Science degree with a biological science major;

(c) the best student completing a Science degree with a human or psychological sciences major; and

(d) the best student completing a Science degree with a physics or chemistry major.

(2) The Board of Examiners does not apply any means test in the award of a studentship.

5. A studentship is paid at intervals to be determined by the Faculty throughout the enrolment, the continuation from semester to semester being subject to the awardee making satisfactory progress in the previous semester.

6. An award is conditional on enrolment in an honours programme in science.
