Basil Stone Scholarship * [F8208]An asterisk (*) indicates that this scholarship is governed by conditions. This scholarship is governed by the General Conditions for Scholarships for Coursework Students except as set out in the conditions that follow. Mr Horace Joseph Stone having made a bequest under the terms of his will to establish a scholarship to encourage study in agriculture in memory of his son Basil who died in a tragic accident aged 19, a fund is established for the purpose and the scholarship is administered in accordance with the following conditions. Title 1. The scholarship is called the Basil Stone Scholarship. Purpose 2. The Purpose of the scholarship is to encourage study in agriculture. Value 3.(1) The value of the scholarship is $2000. (2) The scholarship is provided from the annual income of the fund after capitalisation in accordance with Senate policy. Eligibility Requirements 4. To be eligible to apply for a scholarship a student must— (a) be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia; (b) be enrolled in a single or combined course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture or Bachelor of Science (Agricultural Economics); (c) have completed Level 1 units to the value of 48 points towards the degree of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture or Bachelor of Science (Agricultural Economics); (d) be enrolled on a full-time basis, unless, in the opinion of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, there are exceptional circumstances which prevent the student from studying full-time. Selection Criteria 5. The scholarship is awarded to the applicant with the highest average mark in Level 1 units to the value of at least 48 points completed towards the degree of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture or Bachelor of Science (Agricultural Economics). Selection Process 6. Selection of the recipient is made by the Faculty having regard to the applicant's academic record. Awarding Body 7. The scholarship is awarded by the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. Method of Payment 8. The scholarship is paid in one instalment in June of the relevant year. Duration of Award 9. The scholarship is tenable for one year. Concurrent Award 10. The scholarship may be held concurrently with any other scholarship or award provided that the conditions of the other scholarship or award so permit. Publications 11. Any thesis, dissertation or other publications resulting from research undertaken by the recipient while in receipt of the Basil Stone Scholarship must acknowledge the support of the scholarship and carry the University by-line.
